The graduate student of the University of Columbia, Mahmoud Khalil, can be deported as a national security risk, an immigration judge in Louisiana ruled on Friday, April 11, giving a hearing about the legality of kicking the activist who participated in the pro-palestinian extensions.

Immigration judge Jamee E. Comans said at the end of a hearing in Jena that the government’s statement that Khalil’s presence in the United States raised “potentially serious foreign policy consequences” was sufficient for the required requirements for deportation. Comans said the government had “established for clear and convincing evidence that it is removable.”

Lawyers for Khalil Apelen are expected to appeal. And a federal judge in New Jersey has temporarily prohibited Khalil’s elimination from the country. Khalil, a legal resident of the United States, was arrested by federal immigration agents on March 8 in the lobby of his university apartment, the first sentence under the promised repression of President Donald Trump against the students who joined the protests of the Campus against the War in Gaza.

His wife, American citizen, must give birth

In one day, he was fly throughout the country and tasks to a center of immigration details in Jena, thousands of miles from his lawyers and wife, an American citizen who will give birth soon. Khalil’s lawyers have challenged the legality of their detention, saying that the Trump administration is trying to take energetic measures against freedom of expression protected by the Constitution of the United States.

The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, has cited a statute rarely used to justify Khalil’s deportation, which gives him power to deport those who represent “potentially serious foreign policy sentences for the United States.”

At Friday’s hearing, Khalil’s lawyer, Marc van der Hout, told the judge that the government’s presentations show that the attempt to deport his client “has nothing to do with foreign policy.”

Earlier this week, the comians challenge the government to share evidence that Khalil should be expelled from the country for their role in the protests of the campus against Israel and the war in Gaza. She said that if the evidence does not support her removal, “the case would end on Friday.”

On Friday, the lawyers of the Department of Justice said in documents presented in a federal court in Newark, New Jersey, that the Comans would not have the authority to immediately free Khalil. Khalil is not accused of violating the laws of protests in Columbia. However, the Government has said that non-citizens who participate in such demonstrations must be expelled from the country for expressing opinions that the Administration considers anti-Semitic and “pro-hamas”, the reference is militant group data. 7, 2023.

Khalil, a graduate student of 30 -year -old international affairs, had served as a negotiator and spokesperson for student activists at Columbia University who play a grass of the La Primavera Past campus to protest Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

But the images of his masked face in the protests, along with his willingness to share his name with journalists, have made him an object of contempt among those who saw the protesters and their demands as anti -myths.
