In Anti-Trump manifestations, its name can be in signals: “Khalil free”. Arrested on March 8 in New York and since then in Louisiana without charges against him, the student of the University of Columbia and Pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, 30, has become a symbol of the political deportations of foreign students.

Born in Syria in a field of Palestinian refugees, the activist, who celebrated a permanent resident card of the United States. He reminded the court that his wife, Noor Abdalla, an American dentist, will give birth soon and that, while “knowing this moment transcends my individual circumstances,” I expected to be “white free.”

The judge decided otherwise. Duration The Hearing in Jena, Louisiana, ruled that the Trump administration can deport the student under the discretionary power of the Secretary of State to evaluate the risks for national security. Khalil’s lawyers announced their intention to appeal. Another judge, a federal, is also consulting the constitutionality of his deportation, in New Jersey.
