Serbian students leading months or anti -government protests organized new demonstrations on Monday, April 14, aimed at buildings of a public broadcaster in two cities. The protesters blocked the entries to the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) offices in Belgrade, a study of RTS in the capital and the Radio Television of Vojvodina (RTV) offices in Novi Sad. The police observed the protests but did not intervene.
The students accused national stations of ignoring their movement and protests. “The public broadcaster is working against all of us,” the students wrote on Instagram. They threw tents outside RTS and RTV and promised a prolonged block.
The protests began in November after the collapse of a concrete roof renewed at the Novi Sad train station killed 16 people. Students have blocked university faculties and celebrated great demonstrations. Public outrage over the disaster seen as a symbol or corruption with deep boats has fed the largest wave of disturbances in Serbia since the 1990s.
Protest meetings have tasks placed almost daily, attracting hundreds or thousands or participants in the main cities. The pressure on the government of the protests led to the renunciation of the prime minister and the collapse of the government.
In response, President Aleksandar Vucic has alternated between calls to dialogue and accusations that students are trying a “color revolution.”
