Avalanche’s warnings were in place on Thursday in the French Alps, after Storm Hans brought strong snowfall, which led to road and school closures, as well as a closure in the Alpine Resort of Tignes.
Residents and visitors at the popular Tignes ski resort were in Thorsday confined to their homes and hotels due to strong snowfall and risk of avalanches, with restrictions instead ‘until it is notified’.
The closure applies to “all neighborhoods, villages and villages in Tignes”, according to the Resort website. “Traveling within the same neighborhood is only allowed between 3 pm and 8 pm,” added the alert.
The complex ski area has been closed, transport buses are not being executed and schools and nurseries are also closed.
Local officials ordered the blockade since more than one snow meter has fallen into the resort, as a result of a relatively common climatic phenomenon that occurs between one and three times every winter.
The forecasts have warned that more than 2 million or snow could fall into places before the storm passes, which brought wind and rain to Corsica and the southeast of France during the night.
In other places, between 20 and 40 cm of snow fell into the regions of Queyras and Briançonnais during the night from Wednesday to Thursday.
