Two people were still missing in Italy on Friday, April 18, after an unusually heavy storm Astic in the Alps threw more snow in some places, closing the ski areas, stopping transportation and leaving at least one dead person. The storm closed the roads, stopped the trains and cut the power to the areas in France, Italy and Switzerland.

Althegh Snow in April, not rare in the Alps mountain range, the amount that fell in just hours was unusual and the authorities and residents of Tok are by surprise. In Italy, a 92 -year -old man, found dead by firefighters in his home flooded in the Northern Piedmont region, said the Fire Brigade.

“Firefighters continue their search for two missing,” the Italian firefighters wrote in X Friday. “According to the preliminary information, a father and a son were dragged in his car near his home” in Vicenza. The “intense and abundant” rain had whipped northern Italy, becoming snow above 1,800 meters of altitude, said the Meteorological Service of the Italian Air Force.

In the French complex of Val Thorens, a woman had a heart attack after being buried by an avalanche, authorities said. And in Tignes, the authorities ordered the residents to remain inside after more than 1.1 meters of snow fell during the night.

The risk of avalanche rose to its maximum level in several regions, closing several ski areas. At 36,000 people in the Swiss city of Zion, they were also told to stay at home.

Many roads closed in the three countries due to fallen trees or the risk of avalanches. Heavy trucks were prohibited from using the Mont Blanc main tunnel between France and Italy and the dishes that could not cross the tunnels were stuck on the A43 road that linked Italy and France. The trains were also affected, and at a time more than 3,300 French houses had no energy, according to local authorities in the Savoie region.
