Thousands of South Koreans filled the streets of Seoul on Saturday for the Yeon Annual Yeon Deung Festival, celebrating Buddha’s next birthday. Despite the rain, the organizers were waiting for about 50,000 attendees, with the afternoon parade with floats transported or shot by the city center. The festival, which was about 1,000 years ago, was collected as an intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO in 2020 and promotes the teachings of Buddhism worldwide. Eliza Herbert has this story.
