Children with gardening are excited to be one of the easiest ways to increase their connection with their food and make children eat vegetables. And yet, many children do not know that grapes grow in vines and that carrots are the roots of a plant.

I have assured that this is not the case with my children. Last summer, my 3 -year -old son would go out to the garden, would reap a straight bowl and then eat much. He was proud of his small plot of the garden and sacrificed the cherry tomatoes to the neighbors who passed.

Cultivate a gardening curiosity

Children love practical learning and exploration. Follow these five tips for fun and healthy gardening with children.

Give them a good plot with a lot of sun

My children have their own small garden bed to attend. They have suddenly good with a rich floor and a lot of light. I try to configure them for success. I do a little weeding here and there. My children are still young and I want their first garden experiences to be positive but realistic.

Make sure it is a management management size

Although it is easy to get up in the spring emotion, it is advisable to create a garden plot for children that is a viable size, so that children can plant, weeds and harvest the garden only a little help. This size will vary by the child’s age, their available time and attention.

Choose fun and easy plants

Althhehe Crops Thesis varies according to the weather, some are easier to cultivate and harvest than others.

  • Guisantes and sugar cherry tomatoes are favorites in our house, since they can be harvested at the beginning of the year, they are easy to grab for small fingers, and do not require much work.
  • Cucumber plants are lovely for many children, and you can serve many different ways.
  • The pumpkins, pumpkins and pumpkin are also very funny if you have enough space, and children learn patience when waiting for them to mature.

We have tried to cultivate a couple of crops that are not ideal for our climate, including artichokes and melon, but I let children know that our growth season can be short to harvest something.

Guide but follow your example

I try to be more a facilitator than the expert, so that they can follow their own inspiration. My daughter is very excited to grow flowers this year, but I am much more interested in her growing vegetables. I would probably lose interest in your garden. I insist that they only grow only vegetables, so I’m trying to find a balance.

Make dinners that use their crops

My children are delighted to contribute to our meals with vegetables that harvest. It is also a really healthy way to motivate them to continue coining the garden, when summer weeds take over. I will often plan a meal around a pair of vegetables or spices they grow.

As plants know on their own, I could ask my 3 -year -old son to harvest necessary ingredients. I only make sure I have trained them on how to do this, so you cannot lift a parsley plant or eat tomato leaves when they try to help.
