Vilvoorde (Brussels morning newspaper) – Traffic traffic between Vilvoorde and Mechelen resumed at 9 pm after a large interruption caused by a fire in a local waste processing company near the roads.

A fire along the rails in the garbage processor temporarily renewed the trains service. Until tomorrow morning, there may still be consistent delays.

Frédéric Petit, a infrababel spokesman, said:

“It refers to a fire in a waste processing company in Vilvoorde.”

In particular, in the waste processor they are renewed in the mechelssteenweg, a load or excess fire of waste.

“A combination of construction and waste waste has caught fire.”

Mayor Jo de Ro (Open VLD) says.

“Therefore, it is mainly domestic waste, gardens and kitchen, but we don’t know exactly what is in the bags. That’s why we certainly want to play safely.”

The Fire Brigade arrived quickly.

“Fire is both inside and outside a hangar”, Wouter Jeanfils says in the flamenco emergency services zone Babant West.

“The fire is under control and will not extend, but we still hope we have to exalt it for a few more hours before it is completely resolved.”

Currently, a person is healing after being overcome by smoke and experiencing respiratory problems.

“The Fire Brigade has asked us to interrupt traffic from traffic due to the smoke caused by the fire”, “

Said NMBS. As a result, four clues between Mechelen and Vilvoorde were completely unusable from 16:25.

After the Fire Department approach, trains have resumed the service between Vilvoorde, Belgium and Mechelen from 9 pm to night, there is still the possibility of consulting delays. According to NMBS, traffic of traffic should return to normal tomorrow morning.

To avoid the discomfort of the smell, the residents of the neighborhood have been advised by an alert to close the windows and doors and turn off the ventilation, ”explains Ro.

Is there any security measure implemented to avoid future interruptions?

To provide and reduce risks such as fires or accidents that could interrupt the service, prospective dangers should be identified along the railroad and adjacent industrial locations.

Ensure that rail infrastructure is protected from external threats and that nearby facilities have enough fire prevention equipment (sprinklers, alarms).

Regular inspections of electrical equipment, cables and facilities in follow -up are necessary to identify and solve problems before they become serious enough to stop the service.

React rapidly to incidents and reduce inactivity time, trains operators, emergency agencies and surrounding companies must establish clear lines of communication.
