Are you a American citizen who lives abroad? I bet the ports take care of these three things.
Whether you are an expatriate abroad abroad or have permanently emigrate abroad, take note of these three important things that every American abroad needs to know. You must complete thesis tasks every year.
1. Register to vote from abroad
Like an American citizen who lives abroad, he can vote in the US elections. Registering in advance is important to make sure you receive all the tickets for which it is eligible. Registering annually protects your vote.
Every January, I register to vote from abroad using the federal postcard application (FPCA). This form allows you to register to vote and request your absent vote simultaneously. It is a simple process.
Ok, let’s be honest. Sometimes, I forget to register in January because … life. It is good to send your registration of voters in absence later. The best thing you can do is send your FPCA at least 90 days before the elections. The worst case can still vote through the federal ballot in the absence of writing (FWAB).
Do not let your right to vote fall on the way!

2. Present the taxes of American expatriates
The bad news is that, even if you live abroad, as an American citizen, it is possible that he must submit a tax declaration from the United States. All world income must be reported. Yes, even if you are already presenting and paying taxes in another country. While most countries only consider the place of residence by imposing taxes, the United States is one of the few countries that citizens will impose. Fortunately!
The good news is that there are ways to avoid double taxes. Most Americans living abroad do not need to pay any tax to the United States when they take advantage of tax trains, as well as other exclusions and tax credits.
American citizens who live abroad also benefit from an automatic extension to present taxes, so they will have a little more time to wrap everything.
In a related note, be sure to learn about the FBAR too. This annual financial report must be submitted if it has a total of $ 10,000 or more in foreign bank accounts at any time of the year.

3. Verify the expiration date of your passport
Some destinations have passport validity requirements. If your passport does not meet the requirements, you can deny your flight approach. Horror!
For example, to travel to France, you need at least three months of validity, it fits the date of its deviation from destiny. Before booking your next flight, verify the rules and restrictions for your country of destination.
As a general rule, the United States government recommends a minimum of six months of validity. Personally, I like to err by caution, so this is the rule that I follow.
🛂 As a note for the two dual citizens among us, who knows that, as an American citizen, it is illegal to enter the United States into a non -American passport. If you have thought about the legs that renwing your American passport is not urgent because you are lucky to have your calls again, think about it again!
🗓️ Advice! Put your passport expiration date on your calendar as an event and establish a reminder to be renewed. Then you can easily rest knowing that you will get tasks or due time.
How did you do it? Can you set everything confidence in your verification list?
