There is nothing like the taste of its own harvest tomato. They are juicy, but they have a subtle explosion of sweet and sour flavors. The taste of tomatoes bought in the store, which are harvested before Rijs, does not rival local tomatoes to any extent.

It is not surprising that tomatoes are the most popular crop to grow in the garden. However, they are somewhat temperamental, and it is useful to learn about their tastes and dislikes to produce a bumper harvest. Many varieties of tomato grow well in pots, so only the most limited gardeners of space can sow tomatoes.

Selecting the tomato variety

There are so many different types of tomatoes. The best option on how it plans to use them, which grows well in your area, notable space and desired flavor. Ask local veteran gardeners what varieties they have through it is probably the best way to obtain some tips. In addition, your local gardening store can have experts who can dirty advice on the best varieties for your region.

UVA rates and cherry tomatoes faster than larger varieties and are great success for children. The romas are excellent for stews, sauces and tomato paste, while relics are known for their rich flavor and are excellent in salads and sandwiches. Meat edges produce large fruits and are ideal for hamburgers and sandwiches.

O Start your seed plants in spring or buy seedlings in a nursery. Whenever possible, choose organic plants.

Prepare beds and fertilize plants

Tomatoes love organic matter, so it amends their soil with compost before planting them. When planting, add some organic tomato fertilizer to the hole. After their plants have begun to produce fruit, apply fertilizer every two weeks during the growth season to help keep them happy.

Some of the ailments that your tomatoes can find through the growth season can be linked to nutrient deficiencies, so adjust your fertilization regime accordingly. For example, a calcium deficiency in the ground causes rot of the end of the flower.

Taking your right plants varies largely to mitigate the ailments, but monitor your plants in search of problems that may arise. It is more effective to address pests, deficiencies and diseases immediately.

Planting your tomatoes

Find the most sunny location in your garden or on your balcony for your plants. They like the full sun, so the more sun, the better.

Tomato plants also love heat and are not cold at all. Do not raise your seedlings in the garden until the risk of frost has passed. To be safe, wait a weeks after the last frost date in your area and delay planting if you see cold temperatures in the weather forecast. In case of doubt, postpone planting unless you have a reliable way to protect the cold plants.

The space between the plants depends on the variety and how much it plans to prune during the growth season. As a general rule, 18 inches are usually enough for most varieties if you can, while 24 inches are better if you omit pruning. If you select a compact or dwarf variety, it is likely that 12 inches be sufficient.

When transplants your beginnings to the garden, bury the stem to the leaves. Tomatoes can grow the roots in the voice, and this approach helps the plant to develop a robust root system for a more vigorous plant. Remove the leaves that touch the ground breaking them with the voice.

Applying mulch around the plant base helps maintain soil moisture, add organic matter and mitigate weeds. The grass cut, compost and straw are good options, but there are many options.

Waters your harvest

Without help, your plant and fruit will end on the ground. The early attack of tomatoes in the growth season can save some headaches later when the plant has already become rebellious. You can adopt different approaches, depending on how many plants it has and if you plan to use the support system for several years. Tomato cages or stakes are simple and work well for relatively small plants. In recent years, tomato rope has become popular among many producers.

Poda of unnecessary leaves

It is easy to have plants with many leaves but very little fruit, but pruning can make a dramatic difference. Periodically remove the leaves that touch the ground because it can cause fungal problems in your plant. Similarly, eliminate all “dumb”. These are ramifications that grow at an angle of 45 degrees from the main steam.

Irrigation tomatoes

Tomatoes need approximately an inch of rainwater or the equivalent of irrigation per week. Keep in mind that tomatoes do not like to have wet leaves, so laugh at soil level. A drip irrigation system is ideal. Irregular irrigation can cause fruit to break because the fruit shrinks slightly when it is deprived of water and then expands rapidly after heavy rain.

Enjoy your harvest

Avoid putting tomatoes in the refrigerator because it relegates the taste and alters the texture. The sky is the limit with ways to prepare tomatoes, and there are many new ways to try them, such as Pan-Mar, in pickle, in skewers or stuffed. After enjoying fresh garden tomatoes, it will be difficult to eat again in the shopping store.
