France Powers Ahead: 971 MW of Solar Land Granted in Latest PPE2 Tender

France isn’t just talking about clean energy; they’re actually doing something. In their most recent solar tender, the Ministry of Ecology gave out 971 MW of ground-mounted solar power across 165 different projects. That’s up from the 887 MW given to 103 projects last time. This tender shows two main things: people really want solar power, and France is serious about using electricity for its energy needs. By making almost a gigawatt of land available for solar projects, the government is making it clear that solar power is key to the country’s energy future.

What This Means
This tender shows the sector is picking up steam. The PPE2 thing started in 2021 and wants to award a total of 29 GW of solar power by 2026. Now that the most recent tender beat the last one, it’s clear that renewable energy is getting faster.
The projects were anywhere from 500 kW to 5 MW, and they all had to meet carbon footprint standards. Project creators had to stay in the 200–550 kg CO₂ equivalent per kW range, so the solar stuff itself is green.

Stability in Pricing—A Welcome Sign for Developers
Winners in this round will receive €79.48 per megawatt-hour (MWh), a slight uptick from the €79.09 in the previous cycle but still within a stable range. This consistency is vital—it gives developers predictable economics amid global energy prices that can swing wildly.
A Crowd of Stakeholders, A Society’s Goal
What truly stands out is the breadth of participation: 68 developers secured awards, 55 of which received less than 20 MW. This isn’t a game for just a few big players—it’s a collaborative drive toward a cleaner future, powered by small and medium innovators alike.
Putting France in the Global Context
France’s journey in solar isn’t new, but it’s certainly gaining acceleration. As of end‑2023, France hosts nearly 24.5 GW of solar PV capacity—rising from just 11.2 GW in 2020. That growth puts the country among the top solar players in Europe.
France is shooting for a huge goal: 100 GW of solar energy by 2050. This shows they’re serious about solar, and what they’re doing now is just one step in a bigger plan.

Why This Is Important
Solar farms can bring jobs, better air, and a more stable economy to nearby towns. Schools and hospitals can get their own power. And for the Earth, every bit of solar energy we make means we don’t have to burn as many fossil fuels.
This recent move by France isn’t just about putting up solar panels. It shows they’re sure of themselves and ready to move faster toward cleaner energy.

What It All Means
By giving out 971 MW to 165 different projects, France is showing that you can go big with renewable energy and still include lots of different companies. This approach – where new ideas, caring for the Earth, and wanting what’s best for the country all come together – suggests France is heading strongly toward a future run by solar power.
