Universal Pictures is returning Wicked to the big screen for an exclusive one night program. On June 4, the successful 2024 musical fantasy film will return to theaters of the United States, and with it comes the long -awaited first trailer of its sequel, Wicked: For Good. The special projection has a double purpose: to revive box office impulse and offer the public an early look in the next chapter of the history of Elphaba and Glinda.
The strategic launch could help the mesh inch closer to a weird milestone: USD 500 million at the national box office. After having collected the USD 755.7 million worldwide with a budget of USD 150 million, Wicked became the most grossing Oz -related film and the most successful musical film adaptation of all time. His return not only celebrates his legacy, but also generates anticipation for the sequel, which is scheduled for its launch on November 21, 2025.
Directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, Wicked adapts the first act of Broadway Musical 2003 by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel. Located in the land of Oz before the arrival of Dorothy, the film focuses on the improbable friendship between the two aforementioned characters, portrayed by Cynthia Erito and Ariana Grande, respectively, which then becomes really evil witches of the good and glind.
