Paris, In a bold move to solidify France’s role in global climate leadership, Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, CEO of BNP Paribas, has announced the launch of a Green Finance Accelerator aimed at channeling €100 billion in sustainable investments by 2030. The initiative is part of the bank’s wider strategy to become Europe’s foremost climate-financing institution.
Speaking at the European Sustainable Investment Forum, Bonnafé emphasized the urgency of accelerating climate-related financing tools and partnerships with startups, SMEs, and municipalities.
“Finance has a responsibility beyond profit,” said Bonnafé. “With this accelerator, we are not only supporting clean energy projects, but nurturing an entire ecosystem of green innovation.”
The accelerator will focus on clean energy, carbon capture, and ESG-compliant startups. It also includes a mentorship program for young entrepreneurs and partnerships with universities including HEC Paris and INSEAD.
The bank aims to position France as a hub for responsible finance while offering clients more transparent, impact-driven portfolios. Analysts have praised the move, calling it “a turning point” in the evolution of sustainable banking in Europe.
