Tomato Growth Expert Council #1: Use this 8-1-1-1 ratio to build your soil

Name: James Worley

Fast fact: I won the squirrel chef of the 2017 World Championship in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Claim to fame: I have been cultivating rare tomato varieties for more than a decade and I have grown almost 800 types so far. I am proud to grow the most abundant, hard and ready seedlings for the plant available in the area. I also organize a tomato tasting every year on the first Saturday of August. We have had up to 100 different types of mature fruits in years, but we always have at least 40-50 types for people to try and experience the uniqueness of each variety.

Superior Tomato Production Council: The floor building is key. I make my own soil for my high beds with compost produced locally mixed with peat, perlite and vermiculite in an 8-1-1-1 relationship. Do not use fertilizers, since they tend to be too high in nitrogen. Fertilizo with Tomato tone When planting and then every 3 weeks during the season.

In less ideal growth conditions: Mulch is your friend. Use some type or mulch to maintain the moisture of your consistent soil. In addition, I prefer the silver reflective film, since this maintains moisture and weeds, and bounces in light under the leaves to boost insect invaders such as aphids and horn worms. It is what Very Bright and you will need sunglasses when you work with him, but you can see your garden from the outer space!

Favorite Tomato Variety: Carbon is undoubtedly the best I have grown. It has deep and complex flavors and a beautiful purple color, and is quite resistant to disease and is very productive. Plant at least one carbon of boxes in my gardens every year.

Sharin ‘The Love: I am a heart educator and in my professional. I assure myself that anyone who bought my plants knows the best way to plant them, take care of them and eat them too. I am available throughout the year by email to help gardeners with questions they can have. As for mature tomatoes, we eat them at the house of innumerable ways; However, I love enjoying a box of ripe tomatoes and other vegetables from my garden to local restaurants and changing them for delicious meals or making chefs prepare them in a special way.

Fast fact: Well, in addition to gardening, my other obsessions are theater and politics, so, of course, I can rapped the entire opening number of the musical. Hamilton!

Claim to fame: Tomato sauce culture – 125–200 pounds of 36 plants tomatoes! Aseon, Pureo and freeze around 2 to 3 gallons every year for winter meals. People asked me for help, so I created a website to help inspire others. People also asked me for cuttings, so I started a business that raised around 1,800 inheritance tomato plants (nine varieties) and sold them directly to customers, as well as to supply five stores. Customers say that my varieties are unique in the local market and more robust than the options grown in the industry.

Superior Tomato Production Council: Test your soil so that everything is reduced to the elements trace and then mineralize compliance. I start this five years after reading Steve Solomon’s book The Smart Gardener: Cultivation of Nutrient Dense Foodsand made a world of difference in my tomato production. In addition, to obtain the greatest taste of their tomatoes, do not water the plants that last 24 hours before choosing the fruit. Irrigation only dilutes sugars in tomatoes, thus diluting the taste.

In less ideal growth conditions: Here in the northwest of the Pacific, the greatest challenge is the fluctuating climatic conditions. Sometimes, the temperature will fall from 20 to 30 degrees during the night, and we tend to rain a lot during the summer. My solution is double. I select varieties that mature in Ferwer of 85 days, and the cultivation under a protective refuge that can open the duration of good climate for air flow and pollination. The objectives are to prevent the leaves from being dried, which can lead to fungal problems and keep heat as much as possible. This method allows me to plant tomatoes in April when it is still quite great and the law, and extends the harvest to November.

“9 beautiful edible ornamental plants”

Favorite Tomato Variety: My only variety of favorite tomato is mottled Roman, because my goal is to freeze as many tomato puree as I can, and the specification clothing novel is thick and fleshy with few seeds and excellent and rich flavor. Part of the fruit will grow to more than one pound each, and it is so dense that you can roast the slices. My favorite choice for sauce is Black Sea Man, which is a Russian variety that produces many beef type tomatoes that are a beautiful mottled and red green with a delicious sweet tomato flavor.

Sharin ‘The Love: I share my 15 years of experience, failures and successes of tomato cultivation through my website; I answer questions and share information related to my plant business on my Facebook page; And I share my live experience giving presentations to local garden clubs and the course, in an informal conversation. It seems that successful growth tomatoes are a topic of great interest in my area. In addition, my tomato sauce moves: a lot comes to university with my daughter, and I share it with neighbors and friends with the hope of inspiring more people to try to grow tomato sauce.

Tomato Growth Expert Council #3: Choose the appropriate plant for its climate

Candidate: Leslie Doyle
House discussion: Las Vegas, NV
Business: Dulce Tomato Test Garden
Website: Sweettomatotestgarden.com
Follow on social networks: Leslie R. Doyle (Facebook)
AUTHORS BOOKS: Cultivate tomato in Las Vegas in terrible land and heat of the desertSelf -edge (1996); Cultivate tomato in Las Vegas in terrible land and heat of the desert (2NORTH DAKOTA edition), self-published (2002); Slam Dunk Easy Desert GardeningSelf-published (2009)
Fast fact: I am not usual as vegetable vegetables. I prefer berries; Tree fruit; Balls; grilled fillet, fish or chicken; and chocolate (Yum!).

Claim to fame: I wrote new directions for the cultivation of tomatoes and vegetables in the desert, including new ways of watering and fertilizing the farm or garden, a way to increase light in plants and a method to repel insects and avoid diseases. I also developed a soil/compost that is very popular and widely used in the desert.

Superior Tomato Production Council: Help them be everything they can be. He obtains more reliable results when he cultivates a variety known for their prolific production and then gives them wide water, nutrients and sun, and cultivates them in the right climate.

In less ideal growth conditions: Gardening in Las Vegas is very, very different for new residents, and impossible for them without training for a successful gardener. Growing here is really easy, but there are growth rules. Wherever you live, pay attention to your plants and learn to meet your needs and diagnose your ailments.

Favorite Tomato Variety: My favorite tomato variety is the Hawaiian tropics for several reasons: it has an average size from 8 to 10 to sequence, it is simply delicious and is very prolific. It grows extremely well in our hot desert climate and has been resistant to disease. The Hawaiian tropic tomato is only available through me at this time. I also like Juliet, a narrower tomato. It is easy to grow, delicious and a winner of All-America teams.

Sharin ‘The Love: We sell our harvest here at the Sweet Tomato Test Garden and donate additional fruits to the Social Services Food Panty lutheran. Some are also shared with friends.
