Local authorities in the greater Paris region have issued a ban on using log-burners or pellet-burners over the next few days, due to a spike in pollution levels which, they say, are are partially caused by woodsmoke.

The greater Paris region of Île-de-France is experiencing a spike in air pollution, leading local authorities to introduce measures including reduced speed limits on the roads and a ban on the use of wood-burning stoves or heaters.

Local authorities in France have the power to introduce temporary measures when air pollution levels breach safe limits, although in Paris this is more common in summer than winter.
