Antwerp (Brussels morning newspaper) – The Antwerp police rescued a dog that was in a hot car in Mastplein. The owner received 2 tickets. Police warn against leaving pets in cars, even with open windows, due to heat risks.

As Vrt News reported, the Antwerp police are working to prevent people from leaving animals in hot cars. They are a count of all again about this problem. Some people think that if they open a window a bit, it will be safe. But the police say that this is not enough to keep the animals safe.

Wouter Bruyns of the Police of Antwerp is confused because people still leave their pets in these situations. It is known that cars get a lot when they are in the sun. Even if the window is open a little, it does not prevent the car getting too much into. If the animal has no water, it could that.

Why did the Antwerp police rescued a dog that left in a hot car?

Last Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the police intervention in Mastplein due to a dog that had remained in a car parked under the hot sun. The officers noticed the car and saw the dog in the back seat, barking. The car was unlocked, with a slightly open window, allowing the police to access rapidly and rescue the animal.

Wouter Bruyns of the Antwerp police reported that the dog seemed annoying, sweating and thirst, but not with direct damage. The officers allowed the dog to recover after he was rescued before confirming his safety. The outside temperature was 24 ° C, but the police explained that the car could have been much hotter.

He mentioned that cars get hot quickly, just when he doesn’t feel so hot outside. Police want pet owners to remember the dangers. They want people to always keep their pets safe and never leave them in parked cars, even if the window is a bit open.

The dog owner received 2 police tickets. Police warned that it is not safe and it is not good to leave a dog in a hot car, even for a short period. They instructed all pet owners who never leave their dogs in parked cars, regardless of how long they will be out.

If people need to go somewhere and cannot take their dog with them, the police said they left the dog tied outside in a place where there is shadow and water. Police expect thesis warnings to help prevent theses from returning again in the future.
