“These countermeasures can be suspended at any time, if the United States agrees a fair and balanced negotiated result,” said the European Commission in a statement issued after the EU member states exceeded the measures.

The taxes are retaliation for the duties of the United States on steel and aluminum imposed last month, with Europe’s response to Trump’s latest rates still to announce.

The duties will begin to be collected under the measures on April 15, the commission said.

“The EU considers unjustified and harmful American tariffs, causing economic damage to both sides, as well as the global economy,” he added.

Brussels emphasized that he wanted an agreement that “would be balanced and mutual beneficial.”

Trump has also slapped a 25 percent tariff on EU cars imports, and went to the block with the so -called reciprocal rates or 20 percent.

An EU spokesman said that his response to these measures could appear as soon as next week.

Wednesday’s retaliation measures consist or two parts.

First, the EU will allow a set of levies that date from Trump’s first mandate, but currently suspended, replace in place and will be collected next Tuesday.

The second step includes a new list of products to aim with rates, most of which will take effect next month, with some in December.

Approved by 26 EU countries, with Hungary voting against, the list of products pondered towards the states held by Trump’s Republicans.

Directed products include poultry, rice, corn, fruits and nuts, wood, motorcycles, plastics, textiles, paintings and electrical equipment.
