Grimbengen (Brussels morning newspaper) – Grimbergen urges residents to verify and update the PET microchip data to reduce the number of lost animals that end in shelters, promotion of responsible property.

The police cannot locate the owner of a missing animal since the data is often inaccurate or missing.

“Then the animals have to go to the shelter, and we want to avoid that,”

Says Councilor Ewoud of Meyer (N-Va Grimbergen), Belgium.

An identification chip, a unique number to recognize your pet, is mandatory for pets. But often the data are incorrect or incorrect.

“It happens more frequently that the police find a lost animal with incorrect data in the chip”,

Says Meyer’s councilor.

“Then we are forced to take the animal to the shelter. That leads a lot to be administrative for the pet to return to the owner.”

That is why the municipality is asking to verify the data through Check -Jechip.be.

“We are calling an animal shelter for those who do not have a card reader,”

Says of Meyer.

“We are starting with cats, because for them the refuge of animals has to come home. We also know how sensitive cats are to stress. If the data is incorrect, the animal’s owners can be updated.”

The action for cats extends from June 7 to 20.

“In autumn, we will provide something similar for dogs at the annual fair,”

The councilor says for animal welfare.

“That way, we have the opportunity to keep lost animals out of the shelter.”

How does it help pet chips data to keep animals out of the shelter?

By facilitating the rapid identification and meeting with their owners in case a pet is lost, verifying pet microchip data helps keep animals out of the shelters.

Personnel members verify a microchip when an animal is taken to a shelter or a fat office; If the chip contains correct and current contact information, you can quickly contact the owner to make arrangements for the return of the pet.

The possibility that lost pets meet with their families instead of ending in shelters or finding new houses increases largely in this procedure.

Microchip dogs have more than double probabilities of being claimed, and microchips cats are even more likely to be returned to their owners than non -microchaded animals, according to studies.
