Sint-Niklaas (Brussels morning newspaper): For the first time in more than a year, an event will be held at the Markt Grote in the city of Sint-Niklaas. The city has been working since May of the previous year to completely redesign the market. The redesign is in full swing, but given the urgency of slowness, it is already the case that is part of the Markt grotto specifically open for the annual meikermis.

For the first time in more than a year, an event will have the big market in Sint-Niklaas as a place. The city has been doing an extensive redesign work since May of last year, but an exception for annual Meikermis has been made.

Part of the market has opened at the time of letting the fair be out while it is in the middle of the construction. Alderman for events Ghizlane Benabdellah (Vooruit) confirmed the agreement, agreeing that it was a difficult configuration while thanking the workers for their cooperation, as reported by VRT.

Alderman for events Ghizlane Benabdellah (Vooruit) is pleased that an exception can be made for the installation of the May Fair.

“These are not easy circumstances, but thanks to the workers, we were able to give the fair a place here.”

Today, fair enclosure vendors cool the fried potatoes and workers’ donuts.

“It is always good to see that others are grateful for the work we do,”

An administrator of satisfied sites, Bram Peeters says.

“We have some experience working in more busy areas, but it is still special to work here. In any case, we were anxious for this delicious food.”

There is also satisfaction among newcomer holders, who are happy that the annual doll has not canceled the leg due to this.

“We are happy that we can be here, and we hear that most newcomers can make a living here. In 6 weeks, there will be another summer fair. Hopefully the work has also progressed more for then”, “,”, “,”, “,”, “,”, “,”, “,”, “,”, “,”.

Says the head of the Mario Hafki Fairgrounds

The attitude around work does not keep visitors at home, according to the merchant of the fairgrounds.

“We started on May 1, and that caused a massive participation due to holidays. On weekdays they are a little less, but we would prefer to operate at 80 % than to win anything.”

What led to Grote Markt’s redesign and the exception of Meikermis?

The Markt Grote in Sint-Niklaas, therefore, is experiencing a great face washing since May 2023, and the City Council is in the process of paying a complete redesign to modernize the historical square. The project, which was initially thought to induced long -term interruptions, has limited public events for more than a year. However, the city authorities and the defenders of the event managed to negotiate a short -term writing to allow the annual Meikermis, the traditional Mayo of May, continue.

The measure to allow the fair was after consultations between local authorities, construction teams and operators of the fairgrounds. Councilor Ghizlane Benabdellah (Vooruit) emphasized the cultural and economic value of Meikermis, which receives thousands of visitors, creating jobs for local suppliers. Construction workers changed their schedule to eliminate a part of the square without compromising security, despite the walks and positions.
