The study discussed in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine emphasizes the growing body of evidence that links social connections with positive health results. Social isolation, defined as the inexpensive of social ties and community participation, has been associated with a lower immune function, greater neuroendocrine activity and greater cardiovascular activity. In addition, socially isolated individuals, both men and women, face a greater risk of mortality. Loneliness, characterized by a sense of disconnection and lack of friendship, has been related to poor self -registered health, unhealthy behaviors and depressive symptoms.

Recognizing the importance of social connection in a healthy lifestyle, the article proposes a “connection prescription” as a way of incorporating social interactions into our daily lives.
