A man arrested for fatally stabbing a young Malian in a mosque in southern France and filming the victim’s agony has been handed over to the police in Italy. Identified as Oliver Hadzovic, 21, by the Italian police, and Olivier A. by French prosecutors, was not promoted by antiislamic reasons, said his lawyer. The suspect said that “he killed the first person who saw” and did not express hostility towards Islam or mosques. François Picard analyzes the case with the author and scholar Olivier Esteves. He is a professor of British studies and political science at the University of Lille.
