The recently launched online platform, ATMO France Pollen Index, is ready to help patients with high periods of pollen periods in France. This is how it works.
Despite the quite sad weather forecast this week, spring is very definitely in the air in France, which can be bad news for anyone with pollen allergies.
Fortunately, France has developed an early warning pollen prognosis device, called Atmo France pollen index.
The ‘pollen index’ is calculated using statistical data in real time, pollen readings, weather forecasts and information on the Copernicus platform, which provides a three -day air quality and national, regional pollen and towns counting forecasts.
The website sacrifices an interactive map of the country, which shows pollen levels using six different colors.

Cyan indicates ‘very low’ pollen levels, then going through green, yellow, orange and red, burgundy and then purple, indicating ‘extremely high levels’.
A pollen peak alert is activated when the index reaches the red or ‘high’ counting.
At the moment, the pollen index focuses on six specific pollen species:
- ragweed;
- Alder;
- Artemisia;
- Birch;
- Pastures;
- And olive.
Other species will be included, since they are tasks in the atmospheric modeling, such as Hazel and Cypress.
