In the neighboring community of Haina, families celebrated a collective ceremony for some 20 victims, their coffins aligned each other next to each other on a basketball court. Among the dead were the governor of the province of Monte Cristi, Nelsy Cruz, as well as the former Baseball players of the Major Leagues Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco. The families gathered at Funeral Homes on Thursday to begin the grieving process, while others still waited in hospitals with news about disappeared loved ones.
The aerial images of the site showed a scene that resembles the sequelae of an earthquake, with a blessed hole where the club’s roof, an accessory of the nightlife of Santo Domingo for half a century, had a leg. A video posted on social networks showed the place suddenly plunder in the dark while Pérez sang, followed by sounds and screams. Artists of the Dominican Republic, including the Dominican-American actress Zoe Saldana, joined the choir of the voices that cry the tragedy through social networks on Thursday. “In times of loss, we must unite in solidarity and compassion,” said Saldana.
