A Russian ballistic missile attack against the city of Sumy in the Northeast of Ukraine killed at least 21 people and wounded 83 on Sunday, April 13, kyiv said, in another deadly attack against civilians. Sumy is close to the Russian border and has been growing a growing attack during the week.
“Russia arrived in the city center with ballistic missiles. Just when there were many people on the street,” said the Ukrainian state emergency service. “People were injured in the middle of the street, in cars, public transport and in houses,” emergency services said while rescue operations were exhibited. “According to preliminary data, 21 people have killed the bones.” The Interior Ministry said that 83 people, including seven children, were injured in the strike. Local authorities in Sumy published images of bodies scattered on the street and people running for security, with flames and civilians injured on the floor.
‘Only bastards can do this’
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky asked for a “strong response” from Europe and the United States. “The enemy missiles reached an ordinary city street, an ordinary life: houses, educational institutions, street cars,” he said on social networks. “And this is on a day when people go to church: Ramos Sunday, the party of the entrance of the Lord to Jerusalem.” He added: “Only bastards can do this.”
The strike hit the city center of Sumy two days after the American envoy Steve Witkoff with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and, despite the fact that the president of the United States, Donald Trump, urged to end the war. “Speaking has never stopped ballistic missiles and bombs,” Zensky said, two days after Witkoff held hours with Putin in St. Petersburg.
Trump Voices anger to Moscow
The attack also occurred despite the fact that Trump expressed his anger publicly to Moscow this month for “bombing like crazy” in Ukraine and asking that “go” to end the war of more than one year.
Moscow has not yet commented on the Sumy strike. Russia has attacked with Ukraine relief in recent weeks. In early April, a Russian attack against the central city of Kryvyi killed 18 people, including nine children.
