UK to host Europe’s first Universal theme park

Universal will build its first European theme park in Great Britain, said Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Wednesday, April 8, revealing a mega agreement that could create thousands of jobs and attract millions of tourists. “Today we close the agreement in a multimillion -dollar investment that will see Bedford Hogar of one of the largest entertainment parks in Europe,” Starmer said in a statement, referring to the city of the English market to northern London.

There were no precise figures for the agreement that was reached with the US communications giant.

There are currently five universal parks worldwide. The first opened in 1964 in Hollywood, based on original film studios, later followed by a East coast park in Orlando. Three others are in Asia, in Beijing, Osaka, Japan and Singapore. Visitors from the first universal park in Europe could enjoy attractions and shows based on characters from such dear movie The Ogrek, The Terce Minions, The fearful dinosaurs from Jurassic Park And the incredible popular world of the magician of Child Harry Potter.

The new park could create about 28,000 jobs, including 20,000 construction doors, and represent an impulse of £ 50 billion ($ 64 billion) to the United Kingdom economy by 2055, said Starmer’s office in a statement. About 80% of employees would come from the local area, the statement added. It is estimated that 8.5 million people would visit in their first year planned by 2031, which makes it the greatest attraction in Great Britain.

“We could not be more excited to take this important step in our plan to create and offer an incredible universal theme park and resort to the heart of the United Kingdom,” said Comcast president Mike Cavanagh, in the statement.

In 2023, Comcast bought a 200 hectare site (490 acres) or an old BrickWorks, South or Bedford, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) to the north or London. Universal has said that it would work with local conferences and universities to train the next generation of hospitality workers, with ships and apprentice internships.

‘Larger box office successes’

The area is linked to a train trip of approximately one hour from the Stan Pancras station, which also houses the Eurostar that serves links to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. Among the plans for the new park, are a 500 -room hotel, as well as trips, shows and a large food complex. The proposals will be subject to a planning decision of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Universal has not yet revealed travel details, but media reports have already indicated a possible thematic attraction around Paddington Bear, which is now an important films franchise. All attraction would be destined to rival Disneyland Paris, which in 2023 attracted about 10.4 million visitors.
