There are limits in the amount of alcohol and tobacco that can bring to France from a country that is not from the US, see here.

In general, it can bring four liters or wine without stopping and 16 liters of beer.

Money

If it has more than € 10,000 in cash, you must declare this to customs officers when you cross the border.

Pets

If you are bringing a dog, a huron cat from a country that is not of EU, then you should ensure that the animal can identify with an electronic transponder (for example, microchip that fits the EU standards), the test of the vaccination of rabies and (depending on its test.

An official veterinarian in his native country must prepare a health certificate that he complies with. Later, if you want to go between the two countries, you can obtain your EU pet passport limit to facilitation trips and replace the health certificate.

You can also consult our separate articles on moving to France with a mascot from the United States or the United Kingdom.

Household goods

In addition to the limits of certain types of elements, there is also a rule on the general value of the elements that are bringing with them.

  • Travelers under 15 years (regardless of means of transport) can bring to € 150 Value of goods bought or received in a country that is not from EU, without the need to complete a statement.
  • Travelers over 15 years can bring to € 300 When traveling by car or train (or other means of transport transport or maritime transport), without the need to complete a statement.
  • Travelers over 15 years can bring to € 430 In goods when he travels by air or sea transport, even in Ferry.

There are some exceptions for people traveling from the United Kingdom to France. See the Brexit Guide of French Customs (available in English).

Obviously, the worldly goods of most people will be worth more than that in total, but there is an exception for people who move to France.

This exception only applies to people who move to France to make their main residence. More information for the owners of the second house below.

The rules say that he is exempt from paying the duty if he moves to France and brings his household items what he has had for more than six months, and has been living in a country that is not EU for at least the previous 12 months.

However, there are some conditions in this;

First, you must transport goods within 12 months after the date of your change of residence, so if you want to make several trips to bring articles about then, but the inventory you present on your first trip must include items that you intend to import.

Second, you must organize paperwork in advance. The published rules apply to all arriving from outside the EU, whether you are transporting items yourself or using a messaging company or removals.

You should have:

  • Two copies of a detailed inventory of their articles with its value in euros (dated and signed)
  • Receipts for any article purchased in the last six months
  • Documentation that demonstrates that its previous main residence was in a country that is not from EU, as well as the documentation that shows its right to residence in France, such as a visa, letter from Séjour or the passport of an EU country and documentation Showch Deedch Deeds (for example, purchase of house deeds))))))))))
  • If you are importing high -value articles, you may also need the CERFA 10070 form, these are generally defined as objects that are listed separately in the insurance of your home.

In return, you will receive a sealed copy of the inventory and a certificate that you will need later to register your vehicle. More information in our separate article.

You are not allowed to sell any article that has imported tax free during the first 12 months of your stay in France.

Second Housing Owners

So what happens if you don’t move, but want to bring articles for your second home in France?

Bad news here, French customs affirms that: “The goods destined to provide a secondary residence are no longer admitted without customs and barrel rights.”

Therefore, it can still bring elements, as long as they are below the limits listed above. If they exceeded those limits, then you must pay them the duty of Customs.

You will need a detailed inventory of the elements that you are bringing and its value, so that customs agents can calculate the duty that it owes.
