Rory Mcilroy recovered from a nightmare start for his second round to sneak until the weekend in the US Open, since defending champion Bryson Deschambeau suffered an early departure.
The masters champion seemed in danger of missing the cut after continuing and opening 74 with two double bogeys in his first three holes on Friday in Oakmont Country Club, just to fight back, in difficult annotation conditions, to stir a two oover.
Mcilroy remained out of the projected cut until two Birdies in his last four how he had progress in six, leaving him nine blows behind half of the Sam Burns rhythm in a classification table where only three players remain under the pair.
