If you are thinking of entering a sustainable way, one of the easiest way to start is simply Use everything else. To help with that, I wanted to share the best investment pieces in my wardrobe. I have been active healing my clothes with sustainable and second -hand garments for almost 10 years, and the thesis 12 articles are really the articles I use and more …
What counts as investment pieces?
By name, I might think that an ‘investment piece’ is a demanding article that will maintain its value in its wardrobe. And of course, maybe, if you are in 1% and want to buy a birkin. And don’t let fashion vendors deceive you! Many advertisements and advertisements will call certain garments’ pieces’ pieces’ because they are a bit more important, but they will be easy to use regularly. This is not my definition.
For me, the The true meaning of an investment piece is an article of clothing that will use religiously – One that becomes part of the rotation of your base closet. Maybe even part of your identity.
The best thing to invest in investment parts is that you will feel safer than you use every day and, on the contrary, you will stop feeling the pressure to buy. Now, it is likely that you already have some investment pieces. Maybe the pair of jeans you always reach. Or the large blazer that you get above all. Before starting to buy, look at your wardrobe and think about what you are already using. Then build from there.
I do not prescribe to a capsule closet, not even dictating that you buy the same items on this list. Instead, start sending your style. What makes you feel safe when you use it? What ways do you love? How do you want your body to look and feel? And above all, what does it feel easy to use? The investment parts are less about the money spent on them and, on the other hand, about the value it receives from them. Many of the items on my list have a leg used 50-100 times, transcending the trends and remaining in rotation for years.
In a nutshell, the investment pieces are the battle horses of our cabinets. These are the articles that cost cents for wear.
The best investment pieces in my wardrobe
I originally wrote this publication in 2021, and I will return in 2025 to give it an update. Or the 10 elements that I shared the last time, 9 of them are still in rotation! The only element that I have changed are my Chelsea boots: these have a leg replaced by my black edge boots, which are similar, but they are now titled as black boots. I have also added two more elements that I have used in recent years.
1. Black underwear
Ok, let’s start with the basics. Underwear does not tend to count capsules and rounding of the investment piece, but I really think it should be.
I prefer black underwear because it looks more flattering than the random peach tones of the main street sets. Like some who tend to wear dark colors, I rarely need underwear to mix. Then, I’m going for black!
I tend to use comfortable sets from Boody, organic basic concepts*and mix and combine depending on what is easy to achieve in my drug. I also love this Wildness set: it is completely free of plastic and provides comfort and support to the same extent.

2. Black t -shirts
Lighting underwear, I will usually take a black shirt to throw on the top. This is my uniform: a black shirt and jeans. As much as I enjoy dressing, I also like to have an easy formula to use most days.
I have three black t -shirts that work in rotation: the best shirt has to be that of youth jeans*, which come with a high price, but it is also made of 100% organic cotton and is manufactured fairly. He has lasted 5 years of weekly clothes so far! Read my sustainable t -shirt guide →
Nor do I oppose second -hand t -shirts. One of my most worn black t -shirts was a simple travel shirt that I found in a local charity store. To ensure continuous use, make sure you stay on your shoulders and check the fabric too.
3. Kashmir jumper
Cashmere is my favorite textile, but it is also incredible carbon intensive. One would think that, as a defender of sustainable fashion, I would like it to be an investment piece, but it is incredible, and it can be long if you take care of it. This 100% black puppy sweater is Everlane, and I have used it for seven years. I am so particular about washing it by hand and drying it flat, so it remains in perfect condition. I also have some second -hand puppy fabrics, and I also care so well. Read my sustainable knitting guide to get more →

4. Blue jeans
Next, a daily classic: blue jeans. This is not very inventive as an investment piece, but my jeans are really a costume battle horse. Since I turned 30, I realize that my change in form, and I find my pair of flared juvenile jeans* I have much better than the skinny or straight legs. These are happening five years and are as good as new.

5. Black pants
New in 2025: My black pants. For a few years, I have tried to move away just using jeans. Sometimes, pants is simply better. These wide leg pants* are handmade by independent designer Angelika Joefczyk. They appeared in my conscious edition of Staples for Wolf & Badger last summer, and I did not stop using them since then. Like my jeans, these are a flattering adjustment, and I altered them to be the perfect length with my Mary Janes.

6. Gold Hope Earrings
Now in jewelry. My most worn earrings, in 2021, and even in 2025, they have to be my little monarch jewelry wells. I fell in love with the thesis when I visited the emerging window of the sustainable department stores in 2019, and my mother gave them to me for Christmas that year. These are beautifully made, in a milky yellow gold, and are light enough for the whole day. They are so good that I gave my sister a couple the next Christmas!

7. Light summer coat
Another new edition, Althehegh in 2021, this coat was new in my wardrobe. Now, in 2025, I am glad to say that it was a fantastic investment: I use it almost daily for 6 months of each year!
(Where I can, I like to keep almost all my seasonal clothes in my wardrobe. This helps with the transition dressing: see my publication recently on clothing for spring for more about that).
I like to call this layer of my gabardina, but it is real or a linen coat. It has a more relaxed silhouette, and you feel like wearing an appropriate dress robe!
Made by Samsōe Samsōe, and the purchase through the reluctant resale site Reliked*, arrived in virgin conditions, and I have tried to keep it like this. I take it for dry cleaning at least one year, and I have repaired several times too.

8. Wool winter coat
In contrast, when it is colder, I change my raincoat for this beautiful vintage winter coat. When it comes to sustainable exterior clothes, I have some favorite coats, but my vintage wool coat is definitely the most worn. It is super warm, super easy to use with the waist belt, and it was a robbery of only £ 20 on eBay!
Since then, I altered it to mention the hem a little (I am a short) and I will recover it for repairs after the blockade. It is definitely worth the additional costs of repairing thought: it means that I feel much more comfortable using it and I will continue to do so in the coming years.
9. Wool scarf
To go with my raincoat and my wool coat, I have a wool scarf! My boyfriend Cool This Black Johnstons or Elgin Lambswool for me a few years ago, and sees daily use even now. It is soft, warm and versatile. In addition, he is so well done, he is not malt or fluff!

10. Mini Black Bag
In bags and my favorite mini bag, in that. Before obtaining my second-hand demi-Lugo APC bag, I spent a good number of years coveing it. So it is not surprising that as soon as I finally added one to my wardrobe, I have never assigned it! Whether I am appearing in the stores or dating my friends, it is the bag I will look for. And in my opinion, a mini bag is essential a minimalist: it is large enough for everything I need, without being bulky. In addition, it looks well hung on my layers, or with any of the above!

11. Black boots
And finally, let’s not forget the shoes. I really reach two pairs of footwear, and if it is a shoe day of the day, they will be my border nanette boots. These were an update in my Dr. Martens 1460 boots, and I have used them at least twice a week during the last five years. They do not only require maintenance, just a quick cleaning and is polished from time to time, and I know that I can easily replace plants or laces when the time comes.

12. White sneakers
… And if he is not a son during the day, he is a son of the sneakers of the day. My faithful pair of Purified Plastic Sneakers are my current pair. I have discovered over the years that I tend to cross a couple of shoes a year, and I think it is fine to go. These are a fantastic change in my usual sustainable sneakers of Veja, since they are the world’s first coaches in the world, and come with a priceless price similar to the innovative materials used.
